Hi all

I'm having some issues removing a pot joint that was replaced with a Mini Spares one a year ago. The old one on the driver side come off no problem, but the new one on the passenger side won't budge even with the proper tool.

Any tips? Is there any known faults making them more difficult to remove?

take the hub off and put it in a vice, they just get sizes on with age make sure ya socket is as far down as it will go and the studs not stopping it going down I use a flogging spanner but they're not cheap. good long power bar helps, don't not cut it off as your damage the hub.

Try two people 2 pry bars and a hammer....

 

Prise at two opposite sides at the same time and tap the pot joint (sometimes hard) with a decent sized hammer,

 

Try turning it between tries too.

 

A drift can help, as its easy to miss the edge of the pot joint swinging a hammer...

It can only really be got at properly from underneath.

 

Sometimes they can be a pig, try turning it between tries too

what are you actually doing? removing it from the diff or from the drive shaft?

I assumed from the diff....

It sounds like The C Clip has got caught and not contracted in to it's slot as it should.

 

I've had a few do this.

 

If you keep banging away at it, with a dolly, not the factory tool, it will eventually come. You need to shear the C clip.

 

If the engine is in the car, most of the time I can get to them from the top, using a 4' length of 3/4 steel bar - it's easier than slugging away underneath.

Thanks for all the help; it took two of us in the end - one person with a pry bar and another with the proper tool.

 

Ended up punching grooves into the clip.
