I 'm truly impressed. I didn't think you could get all the settings in the red area of the set up sheet.

Allrounder - good information to know, thanks - I'm using Minispares adjustable lower arms, I'll have a look what bushes are on it and maybe dial it back a bit based on this info.
Moke Spider - for my 998, straight line traction isn't much of a problem, so if I want to be quick, it's in the corners.
Ivor - yes, I've had to explain that I don't want positive camber all round more than once. I must be crazy

Hi Buzzword, did you get this all sorted out? I was looking through past threads as also hoping to get the wheel setup done over the next few weeks. I installed adjustable tie-rods, bottom arms, rear brackets etc when I rebuild 5 years ago and havent had it properly set up yet! Hope everything still adjusts freely!
Didnt want to hijack your thread but was interested to know how you've got on in autosolo? I'm doing my second grass autotest in a couple of weeks but think autosolos are probably more my thing (and maybe even local sprints if i get around to putting a 1380 in it one day). Would be good to hear your experiences - are there many minis doing this?

Hey, sorry, only just seen this.
I've managed to get things pretty well sorted. It drives well instead of like a pig when I first got the parts on it - If I had the money to send it off to get done professionally I might have done that as a baseline setting, but I'm too tight and I like the DIY ethos!
I haven't managed to enter a single thing this year as my brake pedal has been sticking and I've not got around to sorting it. I'd highly recommend having a go though. I was the only mini when I did my first one, there was an MG midget that was older than mine, and a 998 micra with the same capacity engine.
When I got there I got really worried as the rest of the cars looked pretty serious! There were lot of MX5s and the cars I thought I might beat on paper (like the micra) looked well modified. I thought I would be totally humiliated!!
I came 3rd out of 5 in my class, and 33rd out of 44 overall. Which sounds terrible.... but..... First time trying, standard geometry, 8yr old yoko tyres, 28yr old 998 (can I think of more excuses??) and I beat 11 newer, more powerful cars.
The point is, I had a great day and people loved seeing a mini there. It's amazing fun, and if anything will push you to sort your car out it's this! I even won a trophy for best presented car!

Always a great event to do held at Kemble air field in the Cotswolds.

Allrounder - great video! Looks fun.
Do you think the organisers/marshals/scrutineers pay much attention to tyres? All these events say tyres from MSA list 1a, but i have yoko Ao32's which are not on that list (i.e. on the excluded list).
Do you think that would be a problem?

if you do well then expect to be protested. that is if the Scruts ( unlikely) don't spot it. as always be up front when applying. they may still let you run but without getting points or positions.

Yes I’m afraid they will spot your tyres and you won’t be aloud to run (something to do with insurance from the MSA). About 5 or 6 years ago they band the list 1b tyres as they gave competitors major advantages, also you’d only get a couple of events out of a pair so was considered against the ethos of low cost motorsport.

Great - thanks. I'm in the process of refurbing a set of old cosmics which will be a second set and will probably put A008's on them. So would use them then.
How much tyre life do you get on events?

Motor Sport ain't cheap . Blooming good fun though .
It does seem that the MX5 is the car to have at the moment for Autosolos. Certainly competitive and a lot cheaper than a classic Mini and with good tyre choices available.
If there is a classic/historic class a 1275 Mini would be in with a good chance in pre-1967 class, but an Escort RS2000 would be the historic car of choice in 2-wheel-drive.
Up to 1000cc a well-driven Mini would be in with a shout if well-prepared and well-driven. You could get around 75bhp, fit a SCCR gearbox, a very low final drive like 4.3:1 and if lightened as well it would go really well using up to around 7500 rpm. Of course, if you could find a 970 'S' engine that would be even better.
