Undo Castle Nut With Subframe Out

Best Answer Spider , 30 March 2018 - 10:46 AM

So, this is the CV Nut?

I have a piece of 3" x 3" x 1/4" Angle Iron, with holes in the right place to bolt up to two wheel studs.

I mount the angle iron in the vice and then bolt the hub up to that.

Great for taking them apart and re-building them.

I've already removed the engine from the car and then removed the front subframe.

I got a bit carried away and forgot to loosen the castle nut beforehand. I've always used the weight of the car plus brakes to undo them before (with a long breaker bar of course).

Any ideas how I can loosen it with the subframe off the car?

Good advice from Moke Spider

If you have an electric or air impact driver this might just work.

Lidl had a 240V mains electric Impact Wrench in the offers bins last week for £30. This is a good piece of kit, works well.

I put a wheel and tyre on and wedge it under part of the tow bar on my van.
