Hi all

I'm after some advice please! I used to buy disposable dust masks for grinding/sanding and wear them with safety specs.

I quickly got fed up with the specs steaming up and still having colourful bogeys, so invested in a dustmask/goggle combo like this... https://www.screwfix...CFVUg0wodwmkDNw

While this is a bit better, after a while it still steams up the goggles.

So... What do you use?

I dont want to spend hundreds on air fed mask set up, but am happy to spend a bit on my health and safety...

Thanks in advance!

Jon

I just wear one of these type of masks

https://www.screwfix...1-10-pack/17722

And one of these

https://www.machinem...sv1-face-visor/

Although I believe it states that safety glasses should be worn as well.

This might be more appropriate if it had a proper visor☺

I use a sealed half mask with changeable filters.  Like this one

https://www.ebay.co....xcAAOSwdzRanktR

Its seals nicely against my face and doesnt fog up my safety specs as the exhaust port is at the front, however i did get some 3M specs with anti-fog coating to stop them fogging up from the heat of my face.

The above mask is also really low profile so it fits under my welding mask too.  So i can be in the garage all day without having to take it off, even though i am grinding, welding and the odd bit of primering.  The filters are however only really dust protection and not for vapours.  But it doesnt bother me having it on and i dont have to take it off for certain tasks - which would guarantee me forgetting to put it on again.

I dont trust the paper type masks, as if they are not put on 100% perfect (i havnt managed it yet) you still get the black booger syndrome.

I use one of these at home 3M Maintenance Free Half Mask, FFA1P2 R D Filters, 4251 https://www.amazon.c...i_IFrXAb2K86VSA

It creates a good seal and works well with goggles.

Thanks for the replies folks, Mito, I like the idea of the full face shield, it might not get so steamy as my sealed goggles.

Andy/Richie I like the look and price of the masks you recommend, both similar. I'll give one of them a try.

Thanks again all  :highfive:

I've got one of these https://www.ebay.co....Zt7wZ1_IUlmSqJw Mine had the gas filter and the particulate filter but just the particulate one would be fine, It's comfortable too.

Just the face shields aren't the best for keeping stuff out your eyes, definitely keep your goggles on.

they aren't supposed to be worn without proper safety glasses as the visors aren't strong enough to resist serious impacts.

I'd still recommend using one with goggles though as they keep sparks away from your face.

Looks good too, and thanks  for the warning on the shields

Hi all, I hope you will heed my warning and advice. I used to delivery air fed mask safety training and would like to make you aware on the poor performance of the face mask with P1 standard, you would be better not wearing it as it wouldn't stop much more than dust the size of rice, you would be better with using the P3 or P2 that someone has posted a link, now if your not clean shaven ( around your face ) this can have an impacted on the efficiency also. Just remember we only have one pair of lungs and surgeons haven't mastered replacements like hearts

Thanks for the warning - I for one take my health and safety seriously which is why I ask.

A lot of the links above are to P2 spec masks, so should be good, but it's worth checking so thanks!
