Does anyone know when a vehicle needs to have been lasted MOTed to allow it to be declared as MOT exempt?
I've just MOTed my 1959 MK2 jag (registered 1960) and I couldn't tax it until it had been MOTed, I assume that next year I will be able to declare it as MOT exempt when I need to retax. This car was last on the road over 20 years ago so its not on any of the MOT databases.
I also have a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite MK2 last MOTed in 2014, I can't locate the logbook to try taxing and just wondered if it needs an MOT dated after the change in legislation before I can declare it as MOT exempt or does it just need to be on the MOT database as being recently (within the last few years) MOTed?
If you don't tax an MOT exempt vehicle for a few years does it then need to be re MOTed once before it can be re-declared as MOT exempt? If not then presumably I can leave my MK2 Jag off the road for the next 20 years going nice and rusty and then just tax it and declare it as MOT exempt (assuming the current rules don't change)?
I've tried looking online but the details on how the scheme works are sketchy at best.
