Of course the French N roads used to be even better before they got the roundabout bug!
They do like a roundabout - or 20!
Seem to have a weird camber running away from the roundabouts too. First time I came out of Roscoff towing the caravan I thought it was about to roll over going round the first few roundabouts

Has he actually noticed his level is half way in the hole already?
and just arbitrarily waving the other end in the air to measure depth in the middle.
It's a perfect display of brain-dead council thinking, "if hole doesn't = 50mm then it's perfectly fine."
Not one person bothered to engage their brain and realise that if your man is able to stand in the hole he's measuring it's already far too big.
There's no wonder the public constantly complain that the local authorities are a bunch of inept morons!

Just a word of warning about France..... after decades of not bothering, theyare now getting keen on catching speeders. Just to help, Macron is dropping the speeed limit of single carriage roads from 90 to 80 ks in July.

The roads here are shocking in places, having said that barely any-one bothers to report potholes so they don't get filled as fast as they should.

I just did a 2000 mile round trip in my MINI while towing my Mini and I have to say most of the roads were in pretty good nick, some of the B roads need help, but once you get into or even near big city all bets are off - the roads thru most of the cities I traversed were absolutely miserable.
As for lane discipline, it simply doesn't exist here...people are convinced it's their road and they can bloody well drive on it any way and speed they please. And that goes especially for over the road trucks (semis here) who used to be considered the "knights of the road".......no more. Nothing more frustrating than a truck who pulls into the overtake lane at the bottom of a large hill and then proceeds to run 1/4 mph faster than the one it's trying to pass and by the top it's going 20 mph lower than the limit - five miles later they're still side by side and cars are piled up for miles behind them - I think they do it on purpose just to see how large a que they can build behind them!
