Lack Of 10 Inch Wheel Tyre Fitters!

Im getting a set of exacton Mini Special wheels refurbished, should these be fitted with tyres from the reverse side too?

The biggest problem is that they don't know how to change tyres manually with a bar. They also don't know that 10" Mini tyres have to be fitted from the inner face not the outer.

 
..forgive my ignorance, but could you explain why they should be fitted that way ?

Tyres need to be fitted from the edge closest to the wheel well, which is the channel that runs around the rim. Failure to do this puts to much stress on the tyre bead and can either damage the bead or the rim as the bead is a hoop of wire that does not stretch. Most cars are fitted from the front, but some deep dish wheels have to be fitted from the rear. In my 20+ years in the trade, I can honestly say that I have had to do this about 10 times in total. No idea why Mini wheels were designed this way.

 

 

aah -  i think i understand it now.  if i've got it right it means a 4.5J S rim needs the tyre mounting from the outer face, but a 4.5J reverse rim mounts from the inner face

Eh? Ive just got a set of a032's (10's), e marked and legal?

Was referring to a set of Yoko A048 I had fitted to my 13 x 7 track rims, didn't see James refers to 032 tyres, my bad.

Yeah was referring to A032 but still a valid comment though..

I don't want to commit and buy 4 new A032's if they do become non legal (if rumours are true) otherwise I'll buy A008's

I recently had a set of Dunlop Aqua jets 145R10 and it stated the warranty is void if machine fitted but after three of us trying unsuccessfully for a hour to get one on a 4.5" S rim they were machine fitted as they have sidewalls like the old crossplies.

I have witnessed the reinforcing belts cracking and popping on 10"s usually on the works trailer tyres which is why i fit my own tyres.

I fitted a pair of Marshall 145R10`s a couple of weeks ago on 3.5" steels by hand without tyre levers, they practically fell on due to the soft side walls.

 

Our machine won`t quite grip a 10" rim so we have 1/4" thick leather strips to take up the slack and grip the rim so it might be worth taking something like that to your local tyre fitters as it might be the difference between getting them fitted or not.

If the A032s are E marked then they'll be fine whether the rules change or not. It's just new ones won't be legal.

It depends on how the rim is designed. If the tyres are already off it’s easy to work out. Look at the wheel as if it was mounted onto the car and your standing at the front. The lowest part of the rim is the well. The tyre must be fitted from the side closest to the well. If the tyres are still on, you need to look inside the wheel rim and determine where the well is.
