Hi All

I have a problem with my Mini City E (converted to a 1275 Cooper Sport replica 1991) - I have the 3 clock binnacle and I bought LED bulbs to use instead of the low lit standards.

I started swapping them 1 by 1 and all seemed ok - except at some point the stereo stopped working.  I reverted it all back.  The stereo was connected to the 2nd fuse down and when I switched the lights on the stereo goes out.

I have moved the stereo power feed to the top fuse in the fuse box - but now I have no lights at all - neither main or spots.

When the stereo was on the 2nd fuse (as I understand it is supposed to be) it would go off when I turn the lights on (also no lights).

Now the stereo is on the top fuse - the light switch does not affect it - but I have no lights front or back nor flash or main bean (which should turn on the spots).

I have checked all fuses in the fuse box and the inline ones and all are ok.

I checked the brown wire behind the light switch and it has 12v.

I do have a number of relays under the bonnet and a pink one behind the dash - what can I test to try and diagnose it?

Cheers

Fill

I'd say to check the switch, do you have a power probe? Put power from the switch along the two output wires from the switch to see what works and what doesn't. Then I'd check for resistance (corrosion at bullet terminals or earth's)

I took the switch off - popped a multi meter on the brown wire - it shows 12v - I tried putting a cable on it and on both the others - lights don't come on

Now you need to check voltage at the front with the switch connected and power on. It could be a bad earth but sounds like something else.

I think I have solved it - I realise a step I forgot - I went to check on the stereo feed to the fuse box and the top fuse box tab on the 2nd fuse broke off - I added a double spade connector to join the 2 cables on the lower tab but I checked and there is not 12v coming from it with the ignition on - so I guess my fuse box needs replacing - pretty sure the lights come off this connector

Fuse box replaced - lights now work  - but the glass fuses are not held tight - the stereo works then doesn't work randomly - hmm frustrating - looking to replace it with wiredbywilson solution.

Gently squeeze the fuse holder clips in then refit the fuses.

Gently squeeze the fuse tabs closer to each other(top and bottom on same side, until the fuse fits)
