The early series were thin flange. These are a fairly rare. These were also machine up to take the smaller big end crank, which were thinner across the thrust faces, though it's likely that the last of them were wider, but I'm not 100% sure on this.



Later ones (not long after those ^) were basically the same, but thick flange.



The last of them were similar again to these ^ but the tell tale being an added lump to the casting for the later tensioner type timing chain set up. From the blocks I've had my hands on over the years, these were generally the best of any 1275, A+ included.

Mine has that added lump.

To be honest I would not use that block - far too much rust on the internals.

I got quoted £150 a bore for new liners about 2 weeks ago so didn't buy the engine I was looking at as it makes more sense to pay more for a block on std/1 size overbore.

Only reason I can see in spending the money to re line an engine is if you have an car with original engine that's ruined and you are wanting to maintain its heritage

I know it looks bad but it is cleaning up rather well, a bit of a go with a rotary wire brush does wonders!

Wondering if you can help, I just got a 11 stud 12G 1279 block off eBay, it has a lot of surface rust and still had the cam fitted. It is stamped on the sprocket end KC MD 276 SB and has a star drive type oil pump, is that Kent 276? Also would this be a good base for my race engine?

   

Hate to say it, but is that not a block with the hole above the centre main...?

 

If so, its too risky for a race block even with the hole polished
