Can anyone advise if there would be any issues i would cause with my '95 Jap import SPI if i was to fit sccr drop gears.
I know they are noisey and whine, thats not a problem, just unsure if i would create any issues with sensors/ecu etc?
Tia.

I had them many years ago fitted to a 1380 and absolutely loved the noise. Decision not cast in stone as of yet but just wanting to know if im going to create any issues with the spi electrics, sensors, ecu

How can anyone like that horrible whining noise? It is simply horrible. I have sc drop gears on my rall Cooper S and they are coming out very shortly as having to use ear plugs on any sort of journey is far from ideal.
OK when wearing a crash helmet in competition which is what the sc drops are for.

Yesterday my Grandson removed the engine and gearbox from the Cooper 'S' and this afternoon I took the flywheel off and removed the SC drop gears.

Just about to order a complete new set of Helical drop gears from Mini Spares and these will be fitted next week. It will then be a much more pleasant car to drive an the gears will still be strong enough for rallying.

Anyone want to buy a complete set of SC drop gears, hardly used?

Just fitted the helical gears and can't wait to drive the car again without having to wear ear plugs (or a crash helmet).

Back on track, there is a lot of love hate concerning these gears, from Someone who runs minis with and without , and from my POV, they have the potential to grate after a while, and could get tedious on a daily road car, that said I know a fair few folk who do just this and absolutely love it. At the end of the day its your car and choice so do what pleases you, not the masses. From a technical POV there are no concerns so as they say the choice is yours.

I suffer from tinnitus and the sc drop gears meant that I had to wear ear plugs when not wearing a crash helmet. On the road sections this was a real nuisance.

It got so that I was avoiding using the car and that's not what classic car owning is about, even if it is a fully prepared rally car.

The only actual advantage of sc drops is the ability to vary the fina drive ratio a bit to suit different competition requirements.

I have them in my mini with sc box. It's noisy but I think it sounds great!
I dont drive it everyday. It's just a trackday/weekend toy.
I wouldn't want to drive a mini as a everyday car anymore. Been there done that and enjoyed it! But I like the comfort's of a modern car for everyday running about
