Common knowledge that insurance try and make money from the ignorant come renewal. It pays to shop around! However, cheaper insurance doesn't always mean better.

Just renewed my home insurance, for some reason having 5 years no claims seems to make a huge difference.  Coincidentally for the first time a renewal letter had last years price on it as well as the new price, some £30 cheaper this year.  But shopping around the same cover was over £150 cheaper.

Just had mine through from Lancaster, and it has gone up a wee bit (£145 to £167) but more importantly, I noticed that they show it as zero years NCB, so I need to call up and see why I haven't got a bonus for a year without claims. This isn't my main car, so I know you have to start again, but surely you still earn new NCB's against an additional policy?

Definitely pays to shop around - they're relying on a significant proportion of customers not to go to the trouble of getting quotes from other sources, and to stick with whoever they're with. Also worth challenging unreasonable quote renewals from your current provider. They can sharpen their pencil to retain your custom.

I'm sure when I was with Lancaster they didn't accrue NCD on their classic policies.  Could be wrong though.

Ah, ok, that might be it. Still worth me calling up to haggle. Thanks folks.

If using comparison sites check the length of cover - many are now quoting for just 10 or 11 months to bring the price down!!!
