Someone pranged my wife's Mini, and there's a bit of damage to the front (grill stoved in, damaged bonnet and wings). As this repair is going to be paid for by the other driver's insurance, we have asked the garage to give us a separate estimate for repairing the scuttle rust (we are in France by the way), and he's quoting 1400 Euros. It sounds expensive to me, but I know that it's a real git of a job to do, so i wanted to gauge some opinion to decide whether it's a price worth paying or not, bearing in mind that the front end is going to need spraying anyway.

Has anyone had that repair done, or done it themselves? Is the price a fair one?

Cheers all ;-)

Are the wings being replaced as part of the accident

No, just repaired, which is a bit of a shame for the scuttle repair methinks.

That's the problem then. With the wings fitted it makes the scuttle job very difficult. The scuttle should attach to the wings underneath, then there is the scuttle closeouts to consider as well. Again these are attached from underneath.

Even if it's just the ends to repair its very awkward. A complete scuttle even more so. I'm not saying it cannot be done as there is always a way but like anything a lack of access is the key thing here.

I think the guy is going to cut out the rot and do patches, rather than replace the whole thing, although I could be misunderstanding him.
