I am going through several design ideas right now for my next build and I was just wondering how reliable chain drive are as a daily driver, i know someone that has a r1 mini and hasn't had much problem with it (non related to the chain drive) but it could be because his gentle with it.

If you can shield it an use an oiler as well but that brings it's own problems in cleaning up the lube thrown from the chain. It needs a good guard which will trap it and hold in in the bottom of the guard. It means you need to clean out the guard regularly.

I would try and get a chain that doesn’t need lubrication and fit a cover to stop road grit and the like getting into it.
On industrial processes I recommend Tsubaki chains to prevent forced deterioration and fit small brushes to keep any dust off.
They make them for many applications including high powered sports bikes.
A quick google brought this https://www.sportsbi...ent_prod/53961?
