Hi,

Hopefully someone can clear up some confusion, I noticed my exhaust was catching, when I looked underneath I saw it was dipping in the middle just past the heat shield towards the front end, there's no mounts there so on closer inspection I noticed the weld between the pipe and what I'm guessing is the centre silencer????? is splitting, there's a flange a few inches further toward the front, just before the converter so my hope is that I don't have to go near the manifold and can buy a replacement but the options confuse the heck out of me, it seems, if the links below are correct that a replacement pipe from the converter back, are a tonne more for a mpi than any other model, is that right?

The car is a '99 mpi.

is this the right part?

or these, argh I'm so confused, there's a massive price difference

Hi

I would say you need the more expensive one.

The cheaper one is for the earlier non cat mini.

For standard for MPi this http://www.minispare...t/GEX33519.aspx
On the page there are better flowing alternatives quoted too if you want something a bit noisier.

Thanks for that link FS, very helpful, I missed that one completely.

I'm thinking of replacing it myself, it only looks like 2 mounts and 2 bolts, which I can cut if necessary, do you think it's a manageable job for a novice? How does the pipe from the silencer fit into the cat, does it just slide in, or is some sort of adhesive needed?

I can recommend Maniflow products. I've had 2 over the last 15 years...and only bought a second as I went from a single box to a twin box. Wonderful product.

Was it easy to fit? How exactly does the silencer pipe fit into the cat?

You just unbolt from the cat and the entire rear section of the exhaust, what is sometimes referred to as a CAT-Back system can be removed as a unit. The rear section is hung by rubber hangers.

Thanks very much, I think I'll give this a go myself, going for the rc40 unit.
