Just buy a set of a539s?  :shy:

Because on paper the Nankang are a better tyre and then the Yokos are near 100 quid more for a set of 4.

you can always buy cheaper. :tumble:

As he says on paper they are better, wet grip one grade higher and noise 2db less than the A539's. Why pay more for an inferior tyre. although we await more details from govig.

AutoExpress Tyre Reviews: Best Car Tyres 2017/18

"The gap between the Far Eastern and premium brands is clearly shrinking as this performance from Chinese producer Nankang shows. While it’s down the results table in most tests, the margin is often small."

http://www.autoexpre...ang-as-2-review

We name the best tyres for your car as our experts push the best tyre designs to the limit

"Which are the safest, most fuel efficient and quietest tyres for your car? That’s what our annual tyre test aims to find out – and it’s more comprehensive than ever as we’ve introduced some new names to take on the established contenders.

This year, we concentrated on the big-selling 205/55R16 size found on many medium-sized family cars. Familiar designs nearing the end of their production lives took on products from brands that are new to the test - like Syron and Nankang - as well as a fresh tyre from Bridgestone. Michelin’s absence can be explained by an upcoming new design.

In total, we shipped over 100 tyres to Bridgestone’s state-of-the-art proving ground in Italy in order to determine the winner.

We may have all-new entrants, but the tests are exactly the same. While EU tyre label ratings cover just three elements of performance, we have nine variables in order to get a complete picture of how good a tyre is. All were done by Auto Express drivers, apart from the deep water aquaplaning tests, which require specialist training. Rolling resistance tests were carried out by Bridgestone at its nearby R&D centre."

Why ? What makes them so bad?

Poor wet and dry grip although the latter is hardly a big issue. Wear rate seems quicker than Yokos too. My dad had a Mini in the 60s that came with crossplies but he never let me drive it. They might have been worse than these Nankangs

I run budget tyres on a 200 bhp BMW Compact without problems, so I can (sort of ) drive.......

How long have you had them on ? What sort of mileage have you done on them? Any photos of them fitted? I'm curious to see what they look like in real life .

They've gone now to be replaced by Yokos. Only did a thousand or so miles but got concerned about Mrs govig driving in wet weather.

The only reason I bought them was that's all that was available locally when I got the car going again after it had been stored for years (it had its original 15 year old and dangerously perished tyres).

I have 165/60x12 Falkens on the Moke and they seem fine too. I'd stick with either of those makes unless you want to spend a lot of money.

I`m watching this with interest as I go through a lot of tyres.

I personally think Yokos are the best tyres in 165/60-12 and have a few horror stories with the 12" Falkens of a decade ago so much so I dislike them with passion, probably fueled further by the  Falken 145R10`s on my daily drive which were best described as lethal in the wet and ended up as trailer tyres. Replaced them with Marshall 145R10 and no problems and dunlops were the best wet tyre.

Its worth remembering that tyres that are great on a medium size car or hot hatch may not be good on a mini due to its light weight and crude suspension.

I ride a few motorcycles and I have learned the expensive way over the decades never to believe the sales literature but make an informed choice on other owners reviews.

Or alternatively find what works for you and your mini and stick to it, in my case Yokos. Expensive but not as expensive as bodywork or worse.

In 165/60/12 size the Falken Ziex tyres are better than the offerings from 10 years ago.

Our old cars use a now uncommon tyre size, be it 10" or 12".
They are old classics and we shoild, perhaps, not be comparing currently available tyres with those available for modern cars which have big diameter rims.
I'm sure the Falkens, Nankangs, etc, are as good as the old Goodyear G800's, Dunlop SP41's and Michelins which we used in the past.
Yokos seem the best bet currently available.

Yes expectations are high, my old Goodyear Grand Prix tyres were pretty good I seem to remember.

Now Nankang need to do Mini sized versions of these
