Hi all,

AM in the process of rebuilding the front end and have a few simple questions...

On a 92 sprite...

What should the bonnet safety catch land on or latch on? At the moment its making a mess of the e-coat on the front panel upper surface. I can find these but it says MPI only?

Is there something similar for carbed minis?

Secondly there are three holes in the hinge brackets on the bulkhead. Are these used to change the alignment of the bonnet or am I only supposed to use one particular hole for the hinge bolt on each side?

Thanks in advance all  :proud:

Jon

The little slam plate is only for the mpi's as it's in a different location so will be the wrong size.
I made one for my brother's car out of a bit of stainless to protect his new paintwork. Its more of a U shaped piece to go round the slam panel.
I think it's a good addition as it just scrapes the paint off if you're not very careful.

Brilliant, thanks, just found one from smiffys bits on eb@y for the carb mini, if anyone else is looking for one.

Like you say though, it's just a bit of bent stainless sheet so I'll probably make one!

ANy ideas on which hinge hole to use anyone?

Or can I use any to get bonnet position right?

Thanks

There should be two studs which are spot welded to the hinge (2 per side, threads facing towards the centre line of the car) to fit the bonnet I slide one side onto the studs, then pull the other hinge out and slide the bonnet in. Alignment is by loosening, moving the bonnet and then tightening the nuts on the studs, until the bonnet lines up

Just got the second question... 🙄
I seem to remember it's the top rear hole that's used, I remember asking myself 'why 3 holes?' but it might be for adjusting.
I've no mini to hand right now but can check again tonight if you'd like or no-one beats me to it?

Ben
