Mpi Not Switch To Closed Loop

Best Answer Ruckus , 07 May 2018 - 02:48 PM

Yes I’ve been testing everything today.
And I have a result, it was the ECU and the old CAM sensor.

I had a tatty ECU from somewhere which I dropped in today and managed to recode the immobiliser and bingo Cam sensor sync and runs smooth.

So it was 3 things. Lambda and Cam sensor and the ECU.

I tested the resistance on the old cam sensor and it was nothing. So maybe this damaged the ECU in some way?
I don’t know but it’s running smoothly now with all sensors reporting as expected. Go to the full post

Have you tried watching the Cam Sensor Sync on your ACR, whilst someone wiggles the cam sensor wire? Might be failing wiring. As you say, it gets pretty hot back there.

Yes I have, nothing happens.

It would be odd if it was the wiring, it’s a brand new rover loom.

Stranger things have happened.

How about wiggling the main connectors into the ECU? Or at least the Black/Blue and Red/Yellow wires.
Bit of corrosion on the ECU pins, dodgy crimp, bit of plastic swarf in the main connector?

Yeah going to take the ECU out tomorrow and check all the pins on it.
It’s now the only thing that’s not been replaced!

ECU pins look like new, clean them anyway.

Also check the earth point ECU side and Removed the expansion tank and check the other earth point.

Still showing invalid on the cam sync..

Have you tried a continuity test between the cam sensor plug and the relevant pins on the main connector, whilst wiggling everything?

That's unusual. The ECU seems very robust.

Happy days though.

Yes it was the last thing I thought it could be.

But if I drop in the original in the cam errors, back to the other one all is well.
Swapped them a few time today.

Excellent that you've sorted this. It could indeed have been a cascading failure. I repaired a focus the other week where the coilpack failed, only to replace it and no good, turned out it had cooked the ignition driver in the ECU. So yeah, I reckon a sensor wildly out of range / high resistance / dead short could damage the ECU
