Hey guys.

I will soon be embarking on a pair of outter sills and inner repairs.
I have read through the obvious posts but still have a few questions.

Are pattern sills any good, or should I just go genuine? I go all genuine with body panels for obvious reasons but unsure on the quality vs time and effort of pattern ones.

Whats behind the sill, jacking point, slinging bracket and seatbelt mounting bracket... is that all? Im assuming pattern ones for these as theres not actually much to them?

Do I need to do bracing for just outter sills? I believe this has been a bit of a debate before?

Consumables: wheres best to get bulk grinding and cutting discs? There are packs of 10 on eBay for around a fiver, but do they last 5 mins?

For any patching of this area I believe 1.2mm steel?

Cheers guys.

I used M Machine sills very good quality fit and price
Lots of threads on here showing whats behind the outer sill including my thread
Expect to find more rust than you bargained for its a mini thing 😆
I got most of my consumables from eBay
No bracing required for outer sill replacement but if you start removing more then brace it up
Again M machine have the seat belt anchor fitted to the inner sill I dont think magnum do but you get what you pay
Heritage stuff is usually better but is more expensive but you will still need to fettle it in its just down to your budget
Oh and finally become a TMF + member £5 and you will get a discount from various traders ( there is a section on here ) which tells you who and how much

Good luck
Mark

I've recently replaced outer sills and carried out inner sill repairs. I used heritage outer sills, jacking point brackets and slinging brackets and seat belt bracket. I used magnum inner sill panels, these came with seat belt reinforcement plates which I didn't use but they were a different shape and I think thinner material than the heritage ones. The protective coating is a pain on the magnum panels as it needs to be fully removed before paint, I would have preferred heritage if they'd made an inner sill repair panel. Outer sills, jacking points and slinging brackets all fitted perfectly.
As mentioned above, be prepared for more rust than you bargained for.
I use a 4" grinder so discs are not quite so readily available in local shops as a 4.5" grinder. I used cutting discs from toolstation and grinding from machine mart, both were ok.

I replaced my inner sill with a magnum repair panel, the seatbelt anchorage hole was in completely the wrong place (was out by at least an inch). I also replace the outersill with magnum too which needed about an inch chopping off the rear subframe end as it was too long....

It is down to your budget, but all panels including Heritage need fettling to get them to fit.

I'll be tackling the passenger side sometime in the future, including part of the floor - again...

Thanks for the advice guys.
I will be getting M machine panels, just need to find time to phone them up! I will purchase inner sills and cut them up for repair patches or replace whole if needed.

I have purchased cutting and flap discs from eBay, also cIeco pins and some spot weld drills.

Any tips on getting the car as far on to its side as possible?
I have got a spit but unfortunately I dont want to strip this one down enough to use it, so need to somehow jack it up as far onto one side as possible. Will remove all fluids first...

M-Machine do a combined inner & outer sill sub-assembly completed with jacking point and a few inches of floor.
It is not expensive, fits well and keeps the work to a minimum.
Highly recommended if you want a top quality job.

Another vote for m machine, although I used a full assembled floor but the accuracy of assembly and quality was spot on.
