Please Put My Mind At Rest Re. Flywheel 180° Out.

Best Answer Wiggy , 02 May 2018 - 04:30 PM

She runs!!! It was blocked injectors! I'm over the moon! Thank you so much for the help.

I had an mpi in recently for non starting, got fuel to the rail but not out of the injectors diagnostics shown a pulse signal from ecu to the injectors, tested them and they where clicking but no amount of cleaning would get them to perform put two working used injectors in and she fired up immediately

My injectors were the same. Just clicking, no flow at all. The Redex didn't do much; so I got a small syringe of Unleaded, stuck it in the top, and squeezed the plunger moderately hard. Then the missus pulsed the injectors a few times with some wire and a car battery. After a few tries they squirted like a good'un!

Hiya.

I've finally put my MPI back together after years of it being in pieces, and it won't start. Now I know there's loads of reasons why this might be, but I have this horrible nagging feeling that I've put the flywheel on 180° out.

I know now that it shouldn't be possible, but the keyed washer required a couple of light taps with a punch to seat it properly. It seemed fully home before I put the bolt in. Haynes made no mention of orientation, so I didn't think to question it.

My question is: Is it possible to check whether I've done a stupid without dismantling it all again? Timing marks, anything?

Oh, by the way the clutch and flywheel have not been separated at all.

Any help would be great.

You'd have to be hitting the key with a sledge hammer if you got it the wrong way round.

When you say it won't start, have you checked the usual suspects - battery, spark, fuel etc? Is there any life at all when you turn the key?

If the washers was seated neatly before being bolted up and the bolt torqued up nicely, then i would look elsewhere for the starting issue. Check you have a spark, it would be easy to have missed one of the various electrical connections

I wasn't too worried about it not starting. I haven't really checked much. She turns over fine. Fuel pump primes ok. I just read a post where someone managed to put it on 180° out, and the seeds of doubt started to eat away at me.

One thing did puzzle me slightly; when I tested the Main Relay on my ACR4, nothing happened. I expected a click at least.

You're right SH, it is easy to forget a electrical connection. I had previously. forgotten to plug the cam sensor in. Still didn't start though.

Gonna check and clean the ECU earth next.

Like I say, I'm not worried. I'm sure it is something simple. Just that flywheel had my stomach in knots.

This is why I have a nagging doubt. Anyone know how I can check it?

take a picture.

or the more I think about it, it don't matter. other than the flywheel will not be on tight and will most likely fret and weld onto the crank or will fall off. you can still set it up to run as the engine uses a wasted spark ignition it will fire on the right cylinder and the wrong one each time. so it not running has nothing to do with the flywheel.

Not the clearest. This was before I'd torqued and staked the nut.

Sorry, that picture is tiny for some reason. Let me see if I can fix it.

I've just compared your photo to the one i have of my engine as i took it apart. They're both the same, so looks like your alignment is fine. Not entirely sure what Nick is seeing wrong...
