Hydragas and Hydrolastic Service Ltd now have the entire stock of Hydragas and Hydrolastic units from the former classic car parts supplier Earlpart. All units will be assessed in due course, all Hydrolastic units will be rehosed, derusted, painted and fully tested and all Hydragas units will be recharged and fully tested and will then be available to keep customers' cars on the road for many years and in the case of ADO16s probably a lifetime!

Earlpart

Classic Car Weekly 18.04.18
A hoard of spares for British classics built up by Earlpart – which went into liquidation last month – has been saved by a Derby spares specialist. David Kingerley, who already runs David Kingerley Classic Car Spares, confirmed that he has bought the Derbyshire based BMC parts supplier's asets.

‘Tragic sequence of illnesses’ to key staff contributed to the failure of Earlpart. Established in 1974, Heanor based BMC motor vehicle parts and accessories company, Earlpart Ltd, has entered liquidation, following a voluntary winding up. The business entered formal liquidation on 21st February 2018.

HYDROLASTIC SERVICE

"Hydrolastic displacers are generally very rugged, reliable and long lived, however when originally manufactured few people would have expected them still to be in service 45 years or more later.  Very often the hoses become weak and perished, especially around the ferrules.  These eventually rupture causing collapse of the suspension on the side of the car concerned.  More often than not there is nothing else wrong with the unit and it would be capable of many more years service.  The problem is the hose is integral with the unit and in the past the unit was simply disposed of and another unit fitted.   The units have been out of production for many years and they are getting scarcer and scarcer.

The good news is there is no longer any need to dispose of a perfectly good unit just because the hose has ruptured and find a replacement unit complete with an old hose which could fail again, we offer a quality re-hosing service for your existing displacer units using brand new hoses which are much stronger and durable than the originals complete with a new threaded union and very neatly fitted too.
The hoses we fit are of the same diameter as the original.  After fitting the displacer unit is thoroughly pressure tested in our test rig and the diaphragm carefully examined whilst under pressure for the minutest of fluid leaks.  It's not very often we encounter a defective unit but if we do we let the customer know straight away and give them the opportunity to send us another unit, if we encounter a defective unit there is no charge for that particular unit"

Hi, I've very recently become the owner of an old Magenta kit car fitted with Metro subframes and completely collapsed suspension! I don't know what kind of state the units are in but I hope these guys can refurbish or replace the old units, it's either that or do a dry suspension conversion!

Not Hydrolastic, but a step in the right direction.
Hydragas and Hydrolastic Service Ltd (Ian and Dawn Kennedy) announced successful first test of newly manufactured internal diaphragms for Hydragas units.
So if you have old Metro, MGF etc units that were leaking fluid - perhaps because you re-pressurised the fluid without also refilling the nitrogen - they may now be repairable.

"Today is a landmark time for Hydragas and Hydrolastic Service Ltd and the future of all cars with Hydragas suspension. The Hydragas unit in the photos is no ordinary unit, previously leaking fluid and would have been considered scrap by most, this unit has now had a new remanufactured internal fluid diaphragm fitted. It has passed our stringent testing which included being pressurised to 700psi fluid pressure and held at this for 24hrs. The time has come where no Hydragas car owner will have to worry about the supply of units running out in the future. The long term future of Hydragas suspension is now secure."
