Hi all. I am very new to minis and cars in general so on a steep learning curve! Have searched for this answer extensively but cant work it out from what i have read (prob too technical!)

My mini (2000 MPI) was not starting (just made one click then nothing) and the emergency recovery engineer ran tests and said it needed new starter motor (it did bump start and battery in decent condition)

I have tried replacing the starter motor and solenoid myself. All seemed to go ok but now there is nothing when i turn the key. Not even a click. I have 12.6V at the solenoid but get absolutely nothing when i turn the key.

I am attaching a photo of my connections at the solenoid. This was how it was originally wired although the original solenoid had less posts to attach to!

Please help! (As simply as possible as I am very new to this)

Thanks all!!

It potentially may be your starter relay.

Thanks for quick response! The immobiliser looks like it is off (Red light has gone off but it did do some strange flashing when I reconnected the battery).

In terms of the starter relay, what is the best way to check that?

Thanks everyone

Ok just tried it again. Immobiliser went crazy when turning the key to second position. Lots of flashing and the horn going off occasionally and a ticking sound. Oil and battery lights flashed on but quickly off again.

Have reset fuel cut-off as well

After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery you have to synchronize the key fob and alarm. I think the sequence is press lock 5 times than unlock once.. Than it should work normally. The imobilizer will stop the starting motor from engaging untill the LED is off.

Possibly a grounding issue. Check ground strap in the boot and the ground strap on the top engine steady.
