Choke Cable

What's the best way to get the choke cable out.  Do I have to take the whole dash off or can the heater be removed to get to the nut off the back.  It's a 1980 van.

Only need to remove the switch plate. 2 nuts either side, 5/16" AF if it recall correctly. Bit of a pain to get to - I use a 1/4" socket with a long extension.

I managed to pull the switch plate forward enough to get a spanner on it.  No more pegs to hold the choke out now :)
