I could machine up a bolt on tail if you can't find any.one else to do it. Still rather busy at the moment though.

Thank you, that is very kind of you, there would be no rush till spring.

Could you machine up a tail hat has already been welded to the crank, as the crankshaft flange is right where the primary gear needs to go.

Welding cranks is not recommended unless the crank is preheated and controlled during welding. The correct filler material is also needed, i.e EN16 steel not the usual structural mild steel. This is not cheap work.

Can a normal transverse petrol crank not be machine to fit into the block?

I machine 1098 cranks to fit inside 850 blocks from example?

The mains are 2", and machining the crank would be machining a 3.2"  997 / 1275 throw into a 3"  998 / 948 throw, and there isn't enough meat on a 1300 / A plus, to cut the crank pin down to 1.625" and get the throw.

If I got hold of a piece of EN16, I could get it friction welded.

Why not leave it at 3.2"?

This might be your only option.

I think the money tree will have to bloom, but thanks for pointing it out.
