Hey guys,

I've just had a rear quarter delivered from mini machine, but having already chopped out the old one having seem pictures of the heritage mk3 panel, I've cut out too much...



I can't see any repair panels to infill the bits I'm missing, what would people advise?!

Looks like you will have to fabricate the missing bits.

 

A folder and joggler help a lot.

 

It will be a challenge and means body filler to finalize the area.

 

Make sure the gap round the window is correct .

 

It usually means make a card template to get the metal somewhere near, then cut the metal

Folding for the window seal edge and joggling the edge for under the new flat section.

Drill 4mm holes to allow welding together, like spotwelds. The vertical you will be able to use the old spot holes to weld back to the new on the outside.

   The pillar will be a similar technique but more awkward as you have an external bend and the flat curve of the window plus the seal edge, may be easier in 3 parts with a weld up the outer curve and one behind the curve / seal edge...if that makes sense !!

 

It will need several trial fits, trims and tweeks and make sure you are happy with the shape before welding it in, take your time.

I was wondering about finding someone cutting up a shell to make my life easier...do you know if that part of a mk3 would be the same as a mk1?!

Have you got the panel you cut out or was the area you want rotten?

In typical style the bit I cut out was perfectly solid and picked up by the bin men this morning...

Easiest option is to use magnum rear quarter panels, they fit fine and other than a joint behind the door post area as mk3 panels are shorter they are fine. The m machine ones are joined in an awkward position in my opinion and I found it much simpler using the mk3 panel, the panel I used is about £30 from mini spares
