I currently own a '95 SPi rover mini with the standard 12x4.5 wheels and 145/70 12 tyres.

I have been looking to upgrade my wheels and want to go for 12x5.5 rims (e.g. JBW superlights). I've read a lot about clearance depending on the wheel and tyre combinations.

To cut a long story short, I would like to know whether I can use this size wheel without further modifications and if so, what tyres if need to keep to overall size the same.

Thanks in advance

It's not just the wheel width, there's the offset: I'm sure you can google an explanation if you need one. I doubt you'll have any problems with 5.5's though.

The offset on those JBW wheels is +10

Sorry guys I feel I haven't explained myself very well (my fault). My goal is to keep all fittings the same, I.e. No spacers, cutting etc.

However, I would like my wheels to protude from the body of he car and be about 1 inch wider than my current wheels. I want to achieve this by getting some deep dish rims. I hope this makes more sense but basically I want the extra wildness to be purely lip on the wheels.

Thanks for your help so far.

I have same problem :) I want to buy new wheels with tyres which are more wider than standart wheels (4.5x12). So I’m following also this topic here ;)
