As with any mini I'd buy on condition and originality with a limited edition, a rust free Italian job will be faster than a Cooper that has no mot due to lots of rot!

That's because the 1275 with the hif 38 carried on a lot longer after all Coopers had gained fuel injection, my Mayfair was registered in 1995 still with a carb.

A couple of subtle mods to the Italian job will quickly increase that power. You're never going to set the world alight in a mini performance wise unless it's really heavily tuned (even my 84bhp car isn't as quick as my Fiesta) so don't get too caught up in that aspect. As has been said, buy on quality, if you need more performance, it can be achieved as and when you can afford it, step by step at small incremental prices.

If you want to modify it then it's probably best getting a Cooper, buyers are less bothered with a few mods on a Cooper.

With limited edition models, alot of the value hangs on it's originality so anything you do will need to come off cleanly if/when you sell it.
