Hi.

If anyone has any idea, that would be great....

So, put a new dash in this morning, and i don't know whether I've knocked something or what but now when I switch on sidelights or main beam, the following happens! (its a three-dial dash in front of the steering wheel if that helps).

1. Fuel gauge goes well past full, even though its actually only half full.

2. The indicator lights in the dash both light up - though the actual car lights on the car don't.

3. Full beam dash light doesn't light up when used, again the actual full beam does work.

4. Rev counter needle slightly goes up!

So it's like the centre gauge of the three has got issues, even though before it was absolutely fine.

It's been a while since I've messed with a binnacle but it sounds like you've forgotten to run a good earth wire to the binnacle to me, the various circuits then go bananas!

I agree; I think there is a bad earth, so the current is running thru the other circuits.

Check the printed circuit.

Good luck.

I had a similar problem before. With the headlights on, the temp gauge would always shoot up.
Turned out the earth wire from the binnacle had detached

Ok so wiggled the wires under the steering column and all is back to normal... not just got to figure out which wire is faulty. Ah.... the joys of the classic mini :)

Certainly sounds like the binnacle earth to me then.
