What about using one of the newer water based paints? No fumes from them, right?

Unfortunately you still have to use 2k or 1k clearcoat,
I have used upol smartclear for a few small jobs and is pretty good but it gives off far more voc and smell than 2k paint.

I have used 2k direct gloss and find it very good and if done in sections the smell isn’t to bad, I now also use disposable cups so clean up is quick and simple,

I have this link to the actual paint I have used, it’s easy to apply and polish, not as good as 2k though, but far better than the non iso 2k converter by Valspar, I have tried that and it was next to useless, was main reason I invested in an airfed mask.

What are the disadvantages of using smart clear over a 2k clear?

I just found the fumes when flashing off very strong, also need a few more coats and would think it wouldn’t be as hard wearing, but a good alternative

When setting my shed up to spray paint in I used 2 no. 500mm weather proof fans from ebay. They draw so much air out of the room that the door wont shut even with an air intake (intake half the size of the fans) on the opposite wall. My room is approximately the same size as the booth in Daz1968's picture.

For extraction filtration I used paint stop filters on the inside. I then used an industrial style set up known as a wet air scrubber to remove any other pollution from the air. In my case I created a large box on the outside of my shed covering the fans. The box is lined with plastic sheeting and has a hose pipe running in an 's' shape along its walls. The hose pipe has several sprinkler misters along its length with the end of the hose blocked off. When the hose is turned on it completely fills the inside of the box with water mist trapping any paint over spray, fumes or odours.

There was literally no smell of paint in the air outside after I had finished. I was pretty shocked by how effective it was if i'm honest.

If anyone is interested I can get some pics.

Hi guys,

These are the fans I bought
https://www.ebay.co....=item440c4ed69e

And these are the type of misters I use
https://www.ebay.co....=item2383d237a7

Please excuse my shanty town type setup, it was only meant to be a temporary cover haha

Viewed from outside - The fans are on the right hand side of the box. The extracted air is pulled from the shed and pushed through the water misters in the left hand side of the box. The air/water is then exhausted downwards towards the floor.

I know its difficult to see but you can make out the plastic sheeting and blue hose. This is looking through one of the fans
