Hi All

Ive recently put together an almost standard 1275 and put it in my mini.

It seems to run quite well and I've worked out most of the kinks however there is one problem I dont understand.

For the middle third of throttle opening there seems to be a whistling noise coming from the carb. It is gone at low and full throttle and is only present under load.

I've tried getting the whistle while reving from the engine bay so I can locate it but no luck.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Or is it normal?

Thanks in advance!

It could possibly be a vacuum leak

Possibly a vacuum leak or wrong mixture (had this on my sprite when i changed a KnN type filter, had to lean it out a bit with the new filter)

can of wd40 , get it so it Whistle , spray the wd40 to creat a seal and the Whistle goes , track it down and fix ....do it when the engines cold as you don't want the wd40 catching fire....

there seems to be a whistling noise coming from the carb.

Some people would pay extra for that :D

Thanks for the replies!

I thought it could be a vacuum leak but I cant find anywhere it could be, the manifold faces look to have sealed well.

How do you suggest I could recreate the noise when stationary as I can only get it under load at the moment?

And I doubt anyone would pay for it haha, its less a whistle more a scream.

Have you got another carb lying around or one you could borrow? If you do then swap it and see if that stops it. If it does then obviously that means that a rebuild and clean of the original carb would probably do the trick, if not then at least you know it isn't the carb

Thought id post a little update.
I tried adding another manifold gasket as well as tightening everything up. I also cleaned the air filter and toped up the dash pot oil and now the noise seems to have gone.
Not sure which part did the trick but im happy!
