Alloy Front Hubs

Best Answer grizzler73 , 20 May 2018 - 02:43 PM

I have the Minisport alloy front hubs on my GTM with 7.5 discs, you also need Metro knuckle joints. I don't have driveshafts though, just the splined bit. Be careful if you get them as you need to relieve the caliper around the bolt face area as the caliper will not sit flat on the hub. They are nice bits of kit otherwise. For the back drums and decent shoes should be fine, over braking the rear is a bad idea! Go to the full post

I have checked out online all the sets of alloy front hubs I can find but they all say only 8.4 variant discs.

Is there any reason the 7.5 disc wont fit with the correct flange, as the std hub I think is the same regardless of disc diameter?

If someone who has a set of alloy hubs and 7.5 discs could try them together, that would be perfect.

I look forward to hearing from you guys who have used the alloy hubs.

Also on a side note what rear caliper could I use to run 7-7.5" front discs on the back with a mechanical handbrake?

7.5" discs on the rear will not work anywhere near as well as drums.
The rear brakes only do about 20% of the total braking and the pads can never reach effective working temperature.
The only disc brake which could work on the rear is one from the front of a small lightweight motor cycle. A lot of work to het poorer rrar brakes.

My main point is 7.5" discs on the front with the alloy hubs if they will fit.

I dont know of any motorbike calipers that are both hydraulic and mechanical. Does anyone know?

Thank you for your help so far Cooperman

8.4" hubs work with 7.5" disc kits

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

but depending on how the hubs you get have been designed you may have to do things as per the suppliers info.

so decide how much money you want to spend and then talk to the supplier.

#

you dont need discs at the rear.

I'm pretty sure the 7'5's don't fit the alloy hubs as they have much more meat around the bearings and so are too big in diameter here to fit inside the 7'5" disc hats.

yep as KAD say

Please Note : Only fits the later Mini type discs and drive flange. Cooper 'S' will not fit.

Thank you guys. It looks as if the minisport alloy hubs fit the 7.5 discs?

Is it kads hubs that have the metro kpi to suit wider wheels better, looking at the link from Bat, it looks like the minsport ones have the std kpi.

https://calverst.com...-fitting-discs/

As for the rears would it just be a case of converting an alloy front hub and reae backplates to marry up, to run alloy front hubs with drums (with hanbdrake)?

Thank you so much everyone for all of you input

I think the Kad and minisport ones have the same geometry, Ive not seen anything to proce otherwise,

with the kad hubs you'll need to use the 8.4" discs turned down to 7.9mm, and suitable calipers, you do get the option to run vented discs though.

in terms of rear brakes, the front setup it totally different and it would be easier to start from scratch. personally I wouldnt bother with discs, been there with a set of KAD rear disc's thinking that they would be maintanence free. The reality was they didnt do enough work to keep the discs clean so they would rust, and eat pads, so replacing the discs and pads became a regular occurance at great expence. took them off anf sold them in favor of minifins and ally hubs and havent touched them since. also the hand brake adjustment was really finicky, and barely worked most of the time.

Looking at the other thread it looks to me as if neither the minisport or the KAD hub carriers fit the 'S' 7.5" setup.
Looks like you need KAD's 7.5" set up that comprises of 12" wheeled mini drive flanges and modified 8.4" metro discs probably vented or solid and KAD 7.5" calipers.
