Hi having issues with my points becoming tarnished,(mini unfortunately started infrequently) so was thinking of fitting a electronic kit.
Seen two on eBay at around the same price, the accuspark and powerspark. Has anyone experience with either kit?
What's the easiest way of identifying the distributor fitted to my engine?

I fitted the powerspark kit. It took minutes to fit and worked great first time. Never had any issues with it.

I've used Accuspark distributors on a Land Rover and a Morris Minor - no problems whatsoever with either.

Plus 1 for the Powerspark kit. I got the complete replacement distributor and coil. Now I can easily go back to original if I want to.

Easy install, car started first time. Just make sure you use the correct coil and get the wiring right.

I read somewhere that Accuspark and Powerspark are essentially the same parts rebranded. They certainly look very similar and are priced similarly. I have a Powerspare module in my MGB and it has never given any problems. Re your distributor, either look for a number or post a photo.

Just be careful what coil you use with them, they all have a minimum coil resistance they can be used with.

 

Also, use a quality coil, I used one with a Lucas Coil a few years back, the coil dies in about 10 days and took out the module with it.

I read something similar a while ago and for this reason I bought the coil and distributor as a kit from Powerspark.

If something goes wrong I hope to get some support.

Think as said before same thing different label, I have a powerspark and Lucas sport 3ohm unballasted coil. Bought as a bundle. Takes 30 seconds to install and there is a tutorial by kernow on here

i wouldn't buy a powerspark dizzy curve was awful on my mg metro engine and they couldn't tell me the curve thro the revs sent it back after hassle. may be better on basic 998 even then I would get the curve checked as could still be losing low down grunt

Don't think the OP is talking about replacing the distributor. And of course replacing the points with an electronic module will have no effect on the advance curve.

Hi, fitted the powerspark unit to my original dizzy and it's completely changed how the car runs, starts so much easier etc
I'm using a Lucas coil tho so some comments have now got me worried, it's within the resistance values advised so fingers crossed it will be ok.

Now have a carb issue come up which has royally pissed me off, the pick up was originally my late dad's, wanted to drive it to the cemetery to him on fathers day but it obviously has other ideas.
