Clutch Master Vs Slave Cylinder Issue

Best Answer nicklouse , 22 May 2018 - 11:07 PM

pop the rubber cover of the slave and it may just be holding back some leaked fluid. or have a feel where the pedal arm and cluch MC meet if damp you should be able to tell.

1968 Riley Elf MK3

Need to know if there is an easy way to tell if my issue is the master or the slave cylinder..... Clutch went on the way to work today and I need to go and buy one or the other today. I will have to limp the car home after work to address issue.....

Have for awhile had to pump clutch the odd time to get car into gear.

No obvious leaks.

reservoir is full.

Peddle now goes to the floor with no pressure. Peddle does return, i.e is never sitting on the floor.

Can pump like crazy to get a tiny bit of pressure, hence I just made it to work.

Thanks in advance, I know this is a bit of a noob question but just need to get home and sort as its my daily driver at the moment (sadly!)

If the walls of the slave cylinder is corroded or pitted then you are best to replace the whole cylinder.  If the walls of the slave cylinder are in good shape then you should be able to just replace the seals.
