Hi

My oil gauge has started to become slow to respond when turning the ignition on

It can take 10-15 sec for it to mover to its normal 60 odd psi

I end up waiting for it to move and the light to go out before I move off

Sometimes thought not always the light goes out before the gauge moves

Doesn't matter if the dip stick is at max

Car otherwise drives perfectly

Any ideas?

Lenny

So it takes a while for the light to go out and the pressure to rise on the gauge? I'd say oil pump is dying. Also when was the last time you changed the oil?

What sort of gauge is it? Is it mechanical (Capillary) or electric.

I am guessing its a mechanical one - car is a 90 Mayfair

Oil was changed about 4 months ago

Possible oil pump/.

sounds like the pump is worn to the point where the oil is draining out of it when it's stopped.

once it's running and you've got oil pressure showing, if you switch off and then switch on again, do you get good pressure almost immediately ?

My oil pressure guage is the same on my 1993 sprite, I usually crank it until the light goes out before pulling the choke out.

By then the guage is on the move

How many miles has the engine done since the last re-build? What oil is being used?
It does sound like oil pump wear is allowing 'oil drain down' and the only solution to this is a new oil pump.
