Alas, I think my dear old Shorrock has come to the end of its life

Although it certainly wasn't new in 1962 when I was given it by somebody from Allard, it tested the brakes and pepped up my mother's Morris 1000 traveler for a couple of years, some times showing almost 10lb boost as the valves bounced.

Since then, with home made brackets and an A35 manifold, it has blown many minis, but despite several rebuilds, the 7lb boost (due to a smaller crank pulley on minis) was down to 4lbs last Monday.

I stripped it today, and sadly, after countless thousands of miles, it is just worn out.

That’s a shame! Such an awesome bit of kit and very rare now days!

There was someone selling one at an autojumble this weekend for strong money

There was one at the NEC sports car show last year.  The guy had ticketed it at £2,000-00;  He wasn't too happy when I asked if I could turn it over, I could feel roughness in a bearing somewhere but his attitude was "take it or leave it".

Fearing this fate-full day,  for some years I have had "in stock" a brand new supercharger from a not-so-small BMW car.

My reasoning is that there are lots Eatons about, and at 75, it is better to leave another generation with something that isn't antique.

My mate picked up an old Shorrock on a manifold a few years back for £50. It's still sitting on a dusty shelf now.

I never had a proper manifold for mine.

I wonder if your friend would like his old Shorrock to go to a good home?
