buy a Haynes manual as it cover everything you would need.

but interior door trim off (assorted bit and bobs need to come off first) un hook catch remove lock mechanism (or just undo bolts and move a bit so you can get to door handle screw and then undo other screw. extract.

Thanks for that. I have the Haynes but didn't realise those topics are in there, so far only used it to look at routine service etc. Thanks, i'll check it out.

The best thing you can do is take detailed pictures as you go, build up a portfolio. Haynes is good as is the workshop manuals but they do not include pictures of everything.

The title of your thread seems to suggest you need advice replacing the exterior handles but your post suggests the interior handles.

Could you let us know which and then we can tell you in more detail.

Cheers

Ben

Ok, Boot handle is the easiest.

Open the boot, you will see 4 screws holding the latch plate to the inside frame of the boot lid. Unscrew these and remove the latch plate. Once this is removed, you will see 2 nuts behind. These hold the handle in. Unscrew these nuts and the handle will pull out from the outside.

Fitting the new one is the reverse.

Front door handles - Remove the window winder handle by removing the screw. These should be hidden behind a plastic cover on the winder although they are often missing.

Remove the door release handle, again just a single screw

And the remove the door pull handle. This is held in with 2 screws behind covers. The covers need to be released with a thin screwdriver to carefully lever them open from the inner sides and they hinge outwards.

And then the plastic trim around the door lock lever which just prises off.

If you have a door pocket, this needs to come off by removing the screws around the underside and sides.

With these off, you can remove the door trim by carefully prying it along the bottom and sides taking care not to break the clips. Once released, lift it out and put to one side.

Depending on the age, you will either have a full plastic barrier covering the internal door frame or earlier ones had tape covers that look like duct tape. You need to remove this from the openings in the frame nearest to the door catches to gain access.

Unscrew the screws holding the door release mech and the door lock mech from the frame inside and let them hang on the rods. Unscrew the 4 large screws holding the door catch to the back edge of the frame (the bit that locks onto the striker plate when you close the door) and gentle pull that out of the frame guiding the rods for the door release and door lock mechs out through the frame.

Before you can remove it too far, you will need to look inside the frame and unhook the door lock barrel mech from the door catch. Once that is released you will be able to withdraw the door catch enough to access the door handle screw on the edge of the door frame. There is another inside the door holding the other end of the handle to the door skin.

With these removed, you can withdraw the external handle and replace it with your new one and then build it back up in reverse making sure that you clip the door lock mech back onto the door catch rod.

I hope that is detailed enough. Any more questions, just ask

Cheers

Ben
