I’ve borrowed a Rover T4 fault code reader & a Mac tools reader. Neither will communicate with my MPI.
With the T4 I have managed to programmed a new remote.
Is there a common issue if there is no communication? Any help would be great.

You sure you've got them plugged into the correct port on the car? There are two sockets, one for the ECU, one for the alarm (green). You need to connect to the white/cream socket which is to the left hand side of the air filter in the area of the relay pack. The green socket is for the alarm. Have had a few garages connect to the wrong one before.

Spi has two plugs, MPi has only one.

If your trying to find an actual fault maybe its caused by a bad earth which may also affect the communication with the reader.

Mines an MPI so has the 1 plug.
Thanks guys I’ll check the horn & earths.
I’ve already cleaned the earths in the engine bay & made no difference.

The wiring to the MPi plug is awful, likewise the poor job Rover did in creating two different earths on pin 4&5.
Make sure the ignition is on, as MPi keeps the ECU awake making you think it’s on when it’s not.
