Hi, finally nearly had the pup up the road today but it had other intentions, was hoping to get it sorted by fathers day to take it around to the cemetery to my late dad, it was his pride and joy.

Anyway, the fault is as follows.
Runs on tickover fine and for as long as you want it to, but after reving it up the carb overflows.
I had this a while back, renewed the float valve, adjusted the float level as per diagrams on the net and it's been fine in the yard.
Today I set all the timing up etc, decided it was time for a road test, moved it back and forth in the yard to make sure everything was free and brakes ok then it starts to overflow.
Upon stripping the carb the float level is now too high, it's like it's adjusted itself.
Drained the fuel from the carb and no sign of dirt anywhere.

It's running a hif38, inline fuel filter and su electric pump under the load deck.

Any ideas ? Cheers

Sounds like a leaky valve needle. Is it chipped or scratched in the slightest way at all? It should idle just fine but any slight touch of the throttle a slightly damage needle will flood the float bowl.

With the carb inverted I can blow down the fuel line and can't blow air past the valve, that's with just the weight of the float holding it closed.
Have ordered yet another one tho but really don't think it's that.
My thoughts are, engine breather breathing heavily when reving, alternator overcharging and making the fuel pump increase in pressure or I dunno, completely stumped with this one

I had something similar many years ago. It was difficult to find. Remove the float and shake it, you may be able to hear a bit of fuel sloshing around. Or you could just replace it to be sure.

I've submersed the float in liquid over night and no signs of leakage.
