Currently my mini thirty is fitted with an mg metro engine. It's a bit smokey on acceleration. In my shed I still have the original 998 engine which is fitted with 12g295 head and it ran great. I was thinking of maybe using the car over summer as it is and swapping the engines back over winter. I was thinking of maybe taking the mg metro cam and fitting that to the 998 or will that not work. I also have a big valve metro head and a standard 12g940 too. Which combo will give best fun with the 998??

If the 295 is in good condition I'd leave that on the engine. The MG Metro cam will work fine.

Phil.

Yeah it's very good. Been stood in the dry a couple of years so head off, new stem seals and re lap the valves first

What kind of bhp would that achieve. 998cc 12G295 head, stage one kit, mg metro camshaft??

I had a 266 cam (so very similar to an MG metro cam) with a 295 head on my very first mini which was a 998 with twin su carbs/lcb manifold. It was a lovely drive, massive improvement over standard, but still had decent idle and remained tractable.
