Hey gents, I'm running an A-series 1380cc stage 3 head with a 296SP cam on a 45 DCOE. Just swapped out my luminition ignition that died on me for an electronic aldon yellow. Trying to get her dialed in without the use of a rolling road since one isn't available near me. I've got her idling clean at 1300 rpms (idle screw out 1/2 turn, idle mixture screws out 1 1/2 turns) and advance timing at 34 degrees at 4000 RPM. Anyone on here have a similar set up. I'm wondering if I'm leaving anything on the table... Or, am I letting it go boom too early. If you need more details on the motor, just ask. Thanks gents.

I would have thought you'd want an Aldon red dizzy with a 296 cam.

Yea, I was on the fence, but went with the more tame advance curve on the yellow

My 1380's running twin hs4's, MED's fia15 (649 based hitoric race) cam, MED clubman 37/31 head, aldon red with lumenition.
It was set up by Peter Baldwin, I'm sure total timing was set at 5000rpm but I forget the degree figure, I've got it written down at home but I'm away at the moment and don't have access to it.

14 degrees at 1500, static is set higher with the 296 cam. Sits at about 17-18 degrees at 2000 and hits the ceiling of 34 degrees at around 4 to 4250 Rpms.

Nick, 14-15 degrees at 1500 sounds right with a 296 on an AY?

OK ran the engine up and my idle is higher than yours 1500 and 14ish dregrees on the timing light and more advance than your 34 total. BUT my viewing angle is different to when it was originally set .

Good to hear nick, what was your total advance at all in. Also, checked my idle again and got it to run smoother....now idling around 1400.

No worries, think I got what I need. Installing a wideband O2 sensor now on the exhaust as an extra step to make sure Im running good AFR. Think timing us squared away now.

Back home now, looked up my timing settings, it's 31 deg at 4000rpm, not 5000 as I initially thought.

I have a similar set up. I sent the normal metro elec dizzy off to HH ignitions and they refurbed the dizzy, set it up for the engine spec and then capped the max advance to around 35 i think..it was a long while ago. All for around £100. You can do what you like then with the initial timing as long as the car will turn over. Webers do seem to like a lot of advance though i find.
