After having Illusions of grandeur investing 10k in a range rover L332. (that's one of the troubles of being bipolar with to many traits to list seeing the golden shaft is an experience I can tell you)

Decided as i'm only doing 50 miles or so a week. Its got to go and a sensible replacement needed.

 

Always fancied the P100 pick up at least it'll go up in value

found a couple on auction websites ended up with a barn find £750 delivered 100 miles from Essex to me

didn't view saw only the pictures.

 

Took a risk but the guy said it wasn't to bad LOL being a well known rust bucket took that with a pinch of salt after reading nightmares others have had with there's.

 

First thing WASH IT had  more algae on it than the local mill pond.

 

Under the bonnet not so sad cobwebs everywhere Hey ho new fan belts new cam belt when they were fitted 6 yrs ago by last tax disc

turned over by hand everything lines up ok, it didn't start back then by the looks of it and was left.

new set of glow plugs new battery starts up 3 rd go SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

 

Body work

Bottom up best way to start

p100s have a full chassis on the rear going into a monococ type

chassis is pretty much all good, just a couple of patches don't quite believe that!

bit on the cills  considerably more on the floor , 20 gauge steel on the floors no wonder they fell to bits

in between that whipped of the flatbed 6 bolts 3 came of ok others had the grinder treatment

9 days later welding done sheeeet don't quite believe that 

 

chassis oiled flatbed cleaned done oiled and is ready to go back on. the rest can be done from outside at least another weeks worth LOL

backs up in the air ready to go back on

did a couple of brake pipes while I was there

will release the shocker top bolts to make it easier to replace later

lastly a nice pile of detritus took about 30lb of mud and crud of as well

plenty of welding left to do up top. rolling rat truck for a while

Got the bodywork to the stage of it'll do for now, can do the rest in situ.

 

Onto the mechanicals had the engine started and a little run down the road seemed ok except 5th gear missing, planning to whip out engine and box to have a look.

undid radiator hose and spotted a drop of oil in water OK I thought could be a little from laying around 6 years or so put some vanish in the water to give it a clean, give it a flush around and emptied ok system clean rechecked water filled and restarted left running for half hour or so get it nice and warm noticed a lill mo oil gave it a few good revs DAMM IT

head gasket gone as well.

 

Plan B 

thinking the diesel was going to be a bit slow had this in my head just as a thought.

now to be a reality

Hi,

Cab and front end are Sierra, the chassis section I'm fairly sure is unique to the P100.

Being a RWD Ford just about any Ford engine will go straight in...

chassis is definitely made for the P100 only. it goes from full at the back to a sort of monococ at the front.

 

auto box went straight up to rear mounting brackets  just needed to move the slip out the bolting brackets and put them in the rear position

 

one out one in (same day service LOL )

Handy that you had those spares in stock, lol.

My favourite Ford dohc engine is the one with the big air compressor on the side 

Are you lpg converting it as that's the same engine Ford used in their lpg transits?

LPG would be a good idea for the future,

getting the dang thing running is the first ideal, finding some of the bits isa bind as breakers tend to cut anything cutable

leaving it a hellova job to find things like

gearbox to rad cooling pipes, probably an arm and a leg purchased from fords (if available) would only take a couple of minutes to undo nuts in first place

 

sucha waste gets my goat. Dam strangles the life out of it.

Good breakers do it right but are more expensive and hard to find!
Don't get me started on waste, so much and no need for it!

Stuff that was plentiful now in short supply drives the prices up too...

Hat's Project has stalled for the time being, lack of parts availability, a brain for electrics and a body to sort it.

 

So Jasper's taking the brunt of my frustrations as have all the bits to complete he's had a bare metal body strip. pleased to dare to say virtually rust free body,

always fancied one of these ut fear the worst in bad weather haha! looking forward to seeing more of it!
