Once again, massively helpful to a newbie who wants a direct answer - no wonder people end up going to that damn facebook group.

2 points of thought - are you after a flat alloy dash or the late 2000/500 style dash? If the latter, your best bet is to keep an eye on ebay or get yourself to the shows and see if there are any second hand. If you're after just the flat one, there are many different mini spares retailers that have this dash. If you want something that looks like a poor copy of the 2000/500 dash that doesn't fit correctly, Minisport do one.

I always make mine to my own design from sheets of 16swg alumium alloy sheet covered in black leathercloth.

The driver's side carries the tacho, 22psi oil warning light, heated screen switch & warning light, light switches, aux fan switch, voltmeter, headlamp flasher, starter button, spot and fog light switches, reversing light switch and warning light.

The navigator's side has the fuel pump switches (2 off), map light switch, aux sockets and switches, Brantz trip meter, extra horn button, twin electric clocks (50 mm diameter) with on/off switches and a 3-pencil clip.

If you’re after a turned aluminium dash like the ones fitted to the Cooper Sports/500 and the Mini 40’s then the Miniport one is not right. The swirl pattern (not sure of that’s the right term) is much too big. The swirls look to be about 50mm whereas the ones on the Sport/500/40 dashes are only about 10mm. Basically it looks like the stuff they make the counters out of at your local chip shop. It’s fine if that doesn’t bother you too much but it is quite noticeable different

I’ve been after one for a while now and have looked at having one made but as the turning has to be done by hand and the dash is quite a size it wasn’t looking cost effective.

There was a couple of chaps at the Mini Cooper day at Beaulieu selling some and I picked up one there. Quite pleased with the price of it but it does have some damage to the dashboard lid and I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to resolve that (another project to the list)

It's called engine turned. The pattern is 8mm and difficult to get hold of. Can't find it as a sheet anywhere.

there are videos on U tube etc showing you how to engine turn alloy sheet - it can be done with only a drill and a disc of sandpaper of the correct size - but a better result would be achievable with some sort of sliding rig for the drill which would allow more precise positioning.
