Hi, has anybody got any info on the MPI touring conversions and specs? Especially interested in the cylinder head details.

Not much is available apart from basic 'this is what they came with' from new.

Cheers. Mark

The Cooper brochures became less informative with each update and even the earliest ones didn't give too much detail. The 1275 carb version was developed with Janspeed and to quote "Its specially shaped combustion chambers, gas flowed inlet and exhaust ports, all polished and balanced by hand, provide smooth power delivery and watch like running". The compression ratio was 10.25:1.

The heads for the injection models from 1991 on were prepared by MiniSport and as such are identical in spec to the current Cooper Car Company conversion heads as sold through MiniSport. This does not mean they are identical to MiniSport's own stage 3 heads. The compression ratio was changed to 10.5:1 for the first SPi versions but I do not know if that changed for later versions.

The 1997 Cooper S kit (as fitted to the Cooper S Touring and S Sport 5) consisted of (to quote): "large valve, fully ported S stage cylinder head, high performance exhaust, improvements to fuelling and induction plus many more features". Performance was stated as 85BHP @ 5500 rpm.
