Hi all,

I have a 1972 Morris mini and I am looking to convert it into a 4 wheel drive vtec using gear from the Honda CR-V 4x4 , I was wondering what other components I would need apart from the obvious engine , transmission etc , and also if anyone knows where I could get a subframe made for this purpose .

Many thanks

You will have to make one yourself 2 in fact to carry the rear diff and running gear.

If you are on Facebook, have a look a Kjb fabrications. He builds subframes for vtecs and think he is going down the same route as you.

4 wheel drive vtec Mini -brilliant, i love the idea

Altering an increasingly rare Mk3 -not so keen

You will lose the tax-exempt status fitting that set-up in a Mk3.

It's your car & your choice but if it is a genuine tax-free Mk3 why not sell it, buy a cheaper Mk4/5/6, & use the money you've acquired on parts for the project.

Unfortunately It’s just a shell with bits and pieces so it won’t sell for very much , especially enough for me to find a build ?

This is going to be used as a drag car, supercharged and tuned, looking for it to be a 13 -12 second car atleast.... I wanted to go 4 wheel drive as the torque steer on these minis is lethal

I’ve seen the those kits but I was looking for someone in the uk who did kits as that would mean a lot less hassle

that aint torque steer. it is generally poor understanding followed by poor set up of the suspension.

The Mini in that race wasn't just a Vtec, it runs a rear mounted Acura V-6, that is now supercharged and makes 450hp. At that time it was only making about 300.....so if you REALLY want a fast Mini drag car - that's the way to do it.

You'd be far better off buying a kit like theirs than trying to have a local shop fab something up, their kit is compete and they've been building them for years.  All you need to do is put it together....they will even source the engine and trans for you if you want.

As Colin said " Simplify and add lightness"
