I have a standard 1990 998. There is a K&N pancake filter fitted with the original aac needle.
Would it make any difference if I fitted an alternative (AAU) or is it not necessary for a filter only change.
Thanks

Yes it will likely need a different needle. AAU may or may not be the needle you require.

Hi,
Personally I would not have thought it would make enough difference to need the needle changing if everything else, including inlet and exhaust manifold is still standard.
Always get the fuelling checked to make sure it's correct, anything else is guessing!
Cheers

yes as the air ratio has changed best change it when any thing is changed to get the best out off it, and running right ...what to is the question and that what rolling roads are for ...less you have time money, to learn hoe to roughly do it then ya still needs to r/road it

Thanks for the advice. I intend fitting a stage one kit in the future from Minispares that includes an AAU needle.
The car is running ok after I adjusted the carb but there is a flat spot at lower revs. Still, not bad for a standard 998!

Personally I'd fit a full stage one or nothing at all, then fit the AAU needle to get you in the ball park
