see first reply. you need MK1 ones as the later ones have the incorrect taper.

Nick, sorry to be a pain, don't know sufficient about Metros other than they changed to Rover 100s in '90s.
What year are you referring to when you say Mk1? Thanks

You need pre 84 ones for your hubs. The taper on the part that slots into the mini top arm will not fit a post 84 taper and would be unsafe to use very obviously.

I can get some photos later of the differences if that's helpful for you to understand but when you look at them it's obvious.

Hope that helps. But as stated mini hubs are best fitted to the mini.

What brakes has your car got fitted? I'm assuming they have fitted the 4pot calipers along with the hubs for your car. They are safe to use on mini hubs but do need adapting to fit.

Hi Lawrence, as in my original post my car has 8.4" vented discs & 4 pot calipers. I have not yet driven the car on the road, it was a non runner when I bought it. All the mods had been carried out by previous owners, so I wasn't sure which bits had been used. It now appears it has Metro hubs as well as discs & calipers.
Why are folks suggesting I should change back to Mini hubs? Presumably the discs & calipers are not a straight swap otherwise the original hubs would have been left on.

The King Pin Angle for one item is far less than optimal when fitted to a Mini.

I'd say it was done this way as a 'lazy' conversion, that the whole hubs can be removed from a Metro and then fitted straight on to your car and / or who ever did the conversion didn't appreciate some of the finer differences.

Also what brake lines do you have? Are part of them two to one?

Regarding the parts.

Keep the brakes, keep the vented disks

Swop the hubs and drive flanges out

Fit mini hubs and mini drive flanges. You'll need the brake conversion bolts from minispares also

Can anyone provide me with the correct part number for the Metro ball joint that is compatible with Mini suspension arms please
I got one no GSJ 268 which fitted no bother into the top arm, I ordered another just because the rubber was split on the bottom arm it was marked 80-90, but the taper was too big to fit the Mini bottom arm.
I have ordered a third, supposedly GSJ 268, guess what it has the bigger sized taper!!
I should add I have a Haynes Manual for the Metro, nowhere in the manual does it suggest there are two sizes of ball joint!

The post 84 ones step up in size at the start of the taper, you have pre 84 ones fitted in the picture.

If you use the later ones the taper only goes part way in... Very bad! I have seen the arms taken out to match the joint, but not somthing I would do as there's not loads if material left after, and it's a specialist job to match the taper anyway.

Metro hubs can be made to handle OK, but you need adjustable everything.

Not wishing  to hijack a thread but,

(there are some aftermarket hubs that are suitable that use Metro ball joints)

The KAD alloy hubs use Metro ball joints. My car has them but I am thinking of changing them as I don't fancy alloy hubs on a road car.

Are there any other Mini hubs that use the Metro ball joint?
