I presume the panels come with just the basic black paint.
What do you guys suggest for protection?
Do I need etch primer?
Should I go for stone chip? Waxoyl etc?
I look forward to your suggestions & advice.

M-Machines own panels come bare so no paint to remove. The Heritage panels they sell obviously have the e-coat applies that you'll need to remove.

Why do you remove the black primer?
As it can give issues during the paint process

Hi,
Here's a question...
Wouldn't it be better to paint then stone chip so the paint seals the metal from the elements and then the stone chip protects the paint?
Cheers

ah ok.
what I normally do underneath the car is primer, then thin wax, then thick wax. and then touch it up with wax every 1-2 years depending on usage.

Heritage panels come in a decent Ecoat but can sometimes have spider tracks of rust so worth sanding off.
Magnum primer coat is rubbish so remove completely.
Epoxy primer then stone chip followed by topcoat. Epoxy is water resistant unlike normal primers.

Yes I agree that epoxy is a better primer so my advice is buy what's affordable to you.
It's best to apply the top coat over the stone chip (Gravitex) so it seals the gravitex and primered metal, then further protect with waxoil or similar
