1275 Road Use Build

Hi, 

 

So I've 'just about' bought a 1275 A+ block, all I need to do is pay for it now. I'm going to be building the engine over quite a long time, a couple of years at least. This means that money shouldn't be a problem. So what have people done to their 1275 engines and what parts would you recommend buying? The engine will only be used on the road so I don't need a crazy rebore or 8 port head for instance. Just fairly standard parts with a few upgraded goodies to get a bit more poke out of it. 

 

The engine will be put into a mini that itself will be getting a complete makeover, so suggestions on what to do for other parts of the car would be appreciated too.

Next size of rebore(usually +20 thou)
Either a Kent 266 or SW5 cam


The most gains will be in the head port and valve work. Someone more experienced will be along soon to comment on the best sizes

You will probably need a 3.44 diff(match it to the cam)

Use good quality gaskets and seals

A 1293 (+020") is a good size for the road, but £ 4 £ there is no substitute for cc so consider going bigger.

 

The next main priortiy has to be a modifed 12g940 head with 35/29 MG sized valves, worked for the road (not big ports)

 

A mild cam 266 to 274 duration, compression no more than 10:1

 

Hif 44 carb on MG metro manifold

 

An LCB exhaust with an RC40 system

 

A standard gearbox with a 3.44 or 3.76 diff

 

There are quite a lot of things that can be done to improve the efficiency without a huge budget, especially if you are willing to take advice and do some yourself

If you read Pete's thread that will keep you occupied for days...hahah

 

No seriously if you take notice of him you will have a seriously good car, he has been the guinea pig on a complete car build and had so much hassle with bad parts ect learn from his words, it will save you a fortune in time and money.
