Hi all.

So we have a newly restored car and engine. Engine was bench run before fitment and completed approximately 60miles Road test after fitment.

Last weekend we started the engine and it ran for 10minutes and cut out. Will now only start if you chuck fuel in the back of the carb.

It has fuel to the carb
It has a good spark
New needle valve in carb
Float level is correct
Static timing is also correct.

Have references Haynes manual and it says inlet manifold could be damaged, thus causing air draw but the inlet manifold was new when engine was rebuilt, and it was the thicker heavy duty inlet gasket.

Any ideas at all anyone??

Have you checked the fuel pump is delivering fuel to the carb?

So fuel is getting to the carb as in the fuel pump is delivering it, it will start if you poor fuel into the air intake and the float level is correct so it would appear that the fuel is not making the journey from float chamber to venturi.  Is the jet blocked?  Is it an SU carb?  Is the dashpot free to move up?

so if you start it with fuel in the carb does it continue to run normally or stop when that fuel is finished?

It is a HIF 38 and fuel is getting to the carb, as its firing out the pipe when disconnected. If we add fuel to the carb it will stop once that has burned off. So frustrating ?

Is there an in line filter?

There is a small filter under the float jet, you have to take the 1/2 AF inch brass pillar bolt out and its on the end....

It needs checking / cleaning or renewing
