My 12g295 head has single springs. One has snapped. Do these have to use double springs or can you fit any type. I am not going to be revving flat out everywhere by the way

it depends on what the Cam requires.

I would also be looking as to what caused the spring to snap.

The engine been stood for 3 years. Maybe it was squashed and snapped due to that. Its only a standard 998cc cam

The 12G295 heads were originally fitted with double valve springs. Factory specified fitted spring loads were about 65lb closed and 110lb open.

Avoid fitting heavy rate springs, these won't do the standard cam any good and you don't need them for normal road use.

Usually a broken spring is from over-lift for the springs and they are getting in to or near coil bind (need to have a minimum 0,040" clearance between coils at full lift) or from valve bounce.

Maybe it was an old spring. It had been running on my 998 with standard cam for a while. I am overhauling the head and found this spring broken
