Is it an alloy or a steel casting?

Cheers

Steel is an alloy!

Seriously though, Vizard has worked these over quite a bit and his article on them was published in Miniworld's 'Keeping Your Mini Alive 1' in '99. The one he has tested and modified was cast iron.

Here is e-mail I got back from em:

Dear Sir
I think the price will be about DK kr. 10.000 or € 1364 + V.A.T. and post.
If you or maybe a friend of you have a UK Vat No you don't pay Danish V.A.T.

Kind

That's £901.253 plus English VAT (17.5%) is £1058.97
plus Danish VAT (25%) is £1126.57

Postage will easily be less than £20

I cut and pasted this from the site because it answers most questions:

Using 7 ports (4 inlet, 3 exhaust) optimizes power achievement along with compatibility with all the currently available 5 port performance parts.

Twin inlet manifolds are cast onepiece with the head, and in standard form these accept two twin barrel side draught 40mm carburetors, or alternatively they can be opened out to suit larger.

Retaining the 3 exhaust ports allows any widely available exhaust manifolds and system to be used.

Likewise any A-series cam (standard or competition) and any valve train components fit straight on.

Thanks to 1.2mm of extra space between valve centerlines, this head also accepts big valves. Or if standard to slightly oversize valves are used, the risk of cracking between inlet and exhaust are greatly reduced.

The 7 port crossflow head has shown great success in real competition, as it was fitted to all the top Danish team works cars.

Under tests carried out on a standard (with the exception of 1.5mm rockers) MG Metro, the head increased the maximum power to 100 HP. This huge increase is due to the use of 4 inlet ports and the crossflow construction.

Cast in iron, the cylinder head is sold bare, accepts from 35.6mm inlet and 29mm exhaust valves, and upwards.

And finally no bonnet modification is necessary on a Mini to house this masterpiece.

10,000 DKR is ~£895, we won't pay Danish tax, it's OK, so *just* ~£1050 + postage.

Is that good value fir a 100bhp engine?

you will have to have paid Danish VAT or provide an english VAT number or the Danish customs might seize it.

That's right, the Danes are in the EC too. So you pay VAT there unless you are registered as a VAT trader. Even then you would have to pay VAT here if you were using it privately or selling it on. Don't you still have to pay it and then claim it back on your VAT return in Denmark then?
